Mark Henderson
Mark Henderson is professor of industrial engineering and codirector of the five-college Partnership for Research in Stereographic Modeling (PRISM: prism.asu.edu) at Arizona State University. He received an M.S. with an emphasis in bioengineering and a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Purdue University. Henderson was named a Presidential Young Investigator from 1985 to 1990. He has published more than 50 papers and book chapters and is coauthor of a textbook in computer-integrated design and manufacturing. He was the principal investigator for a large grant from the National Science Foundation entitled "Manufacturing Across the Curriculum." Three outgrowths of that grant are the Global Engineering Design Team, a multidisciplinary, multicountry design experience for undergraduates; the Integrated Manufacturing Laboratory; and PRISM.
Henderson's research interests currently focus on noncollocated global design teams. He serves as a co-PI on a recent U.S. AID grant to partner with Monterrey Tec in Monterrey, Mexico, in the creation of a binational M.S. degree for collaborating Mexican and American students. He also is director of the Nomadic Academy, a summer study-abroad program in design and manufacturing. In addition, he teaches solid modeling as well as computer-aided manufacturing, integrated product and process design and rapid fabrication. Other research interests include IPPD methods, global design communication, geometric modeling, CAD/CAM integration and rapid prototyping.
